The relief peculiarities in urban areas make a considerable impact on urban planning and dictate the volume of works necessary to be performed to locate buildings, transport and other systems. Therefore, there is a necessity of systematic and purposeful study of the geological and geomorphological structure of urban areas and the construction of detail geomorphological maps showing the relief dynamics features. The authors suggest a geomorphological map of the Vitebsk territory on a scale of 1:10,000. The legend of the geomorphological map is based on the relief genetic classification developed by the authors. The basic genetic types of the relief have been distinguished, the morphological and morphometric descriptions of its types and forms are presented. The present-day relief of the territory of Vitebsk was determined to be a complicated combination of relict glacial and fluvioglacial morphosculptures with imposed dynamic fluvial and man-made morphosculptures. The map may serve as a basis for developing a set of preventive measures aimed at the protection of urban areas from adverse effects of geomorphological processes.
